Fatal accident in New Jersey
\
A man was killed this morning when his car overturned in a multi-vehicle wreck that closed Interstate 78 East in Alpha.
The wreck occurred about 7:05 this morning, just west of Exit 3, in Alpha near the Pohatcong Township line. Sgt. Stephen Jones with New Jersey State Police headquarters in Trenton, said the deceased, who has not yet been identified, was driving a car with Pennsylvania registration.
A red Ford Focus with Pennsylvania plates and severe front-end damage and a tan Nissan Pathfinder with New York registration, which was on its side, remained at the scene of the crash about 8 o'clock this morning. Debris was scattered across the road. Jones said a third vehicle may have been involved in the crash.
All eastbound lanes remained closed at 9:04 this morning, and the Warren County Communications Center was not sure how traffic was being diverted. Eastbound traffic was creeping by on the shoulder of the highway, and westbound traffic was moving as usual.
Police and emergency personnel are still on scene, and it is unknown how many other people were injured, Jones said.
