    Linz6 Vs Tir6

    \
Im looking into getting a pair of Amber's for the grille of my truck..... i have done some research, but videos dont give a true comparison. Im wondering what light is going to be brighter? The Tir6 or the Linz6??

I lean more toward LINZ6... but here are the videos...

I ran these videos at the same time starting from 1:45 ...... LINZ6 seems to be brighter

Well for the grill area i would prefer the LinZ6.
The LinZ6 has a wider output while the Tir6 has a more directional impact.

heres my If they are going behinnd the grill i would personally go with the tir6's because there is no need fo off axis because the grill would block flashes coming from angles (depending on what type of grill you have) The tir6 has more head on punch i think and i have seen in real life than the lin6. The videos just dont do justice on how bright they are. If the lightheads are going to be mounted on the outside of the grill i would go with lin6's because they would be better off axis to provide warning for the front and a little to the side for intersection warning when approaching an intersection. If any of that makes sense i would be very surprised

KP, that made plenty of sense! And they are most likely going to be mounted behind the grille. At this point, my plan is to mount my red and amber sho me LEDs to the rear on my backrack, and have the new ones in the grille, so eventually i will probably replace the sho-me's with the Linz's..... Both the Tir's and Linz's are the same price, and i feel they are very affordable for how bright they are!! I do want more power head on..... so Tir6's sound like the better option... Thanks man.

    Cool linz6's

I remember when the Whelen rep for Michigan came and conned me
into buying a three of sets for demos, what a mistake.
The linz6's were a big disappointment for Whelen, as they are really
no better than the lin4's (discontinued), I have had three sets of
the linz6's and had a real hard time trading them as many has also
discovered the problems with them. I agree with some that the tir
6 are much better as far as brightness.

Oh boy... Now i am really glad i posted! The only thing i am a little disappointed in, is that there is only 5 scan-lock patterns compared to the Linz's 69 patterns! But brightness is more important! Again thanks to everyone for the help!

Hate to do this guys.... but just came across an old link i had saved.... anyone know anything about the Tomar RECT-LS model? Judging from the video.... looks to be very bright! And the price is much more affordable... and also has more patterns than the Tir6..... Are they at all comparable? Videos do no justice...

The tomar and the the TIR6 are not comparable. The tomar would be comparable to the TIR3 or LIN3 that whelen makes. I own TIR6's and owns LINZ6's. I have yet to hook teh LIN's up, so I cannot attest to the comparison, but if you want brightness, I believe the TIR6 will blow you away. I own a TAM85 and individual TIR6 lightheads, and they are hard to look at when going. The tam is a traffic director with 8 TIR6 lightheads, and when I power this thing up and look at it 20 feet away, my eyes are left sore for about 30 minutes! I learned my lesson not to look at it when it is going. These lightheads should do the job, since the reflectors in them have a pretty decent off angle as well. I would say about 40-50 degrees of off axis, as compared to the close to 170 degrees from the LINZ6. All in all, I would rather have TIR6's in my own grill, and use the LINz6's for the exterior mounting so I am covered at most angles. They both have their advantages and to each their own, but IMHO I would choose TIR6.

Oh, and what are you talking about they only have 5 patterns? The ones I have have like 60 or something like that...Maybe they changed them since mine were made (2008) but I thought they had more than that. I would also recomend buying from this company instead of sirennet if you intend on buying. Much better customer service and same prices: http://www.strobesnmore.com/whelen-5...super-led.html

Here is a vid of the TIR6's in a cop car that I took in my town:
    No Video

here is them on my atv:
    No Video

Dont mind that bad quality..the cam is bad at sensing light so it doesnt lok as bright as it really is.. Sorry for rambling :P Now im late for work

When the time comes..... i think will be getting the Tir6's for my grille! Thank you very much for your help! But for the time being.... i went ahead and purchased a SoundOff Signal Pinnacle mini lightbar....and i am very impressed. I know its probably not the highest rated, or the best i could have got, but for the price and being able to bring it home with me that day.... i thought that would be my best choice!

Awesome choice. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING beats a mini bar. 360 warning and easy to remove. The new Sound Off products are great and I hope that the light works out for you

I am absolutely blown away by this product.... the fact that even though the LEDS are mounted at angles.....straight on it is still insane... and the further you move to the side... the brighter it gets! Cant wait to mount this on my backrack!
